Frequently Asked Questions
We’ve compiled the following list of FAQs based on years of successfully treating thousands of people with injuries in Alamance, Orange, Durham, and Chatham counties.
If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact us directly via email, or you can call/text us at (919) 307-5646.
- What types of injuries and conditions do you treat?
We successfully treat most pain and injuries involving the muscles, joints, and nerves throughout the body.
Our patients range from those with headaches, neck pain, and low back issues to ankle sprains, knee pain, overuse injuries, rotator cuff tears, tennis elbow, and TMJ problems. Chances are if your issue involves a muscle, joint, or nerve — and doesn’t require surgery — we can help. We can also help get you back to top performance AFTER surgery.
- What makes your treatments different?
Unlike many traditional PT clinics that rely heavily on exercises and modalities like heat or e-stim, we emphasize manual therapy and active recovery strategies.
Our approach combines:
Joint-based manual therapy and active movement-based activities following principles of the McKenzie Method to restore normal joint movement and reduce pain.
Soft tissue techniques targeting muscles, tendons, fascia, and ligaments to improve mobility and healing.
Functional training to get you back to your favorite or most important activities.
One-on-one, 60-minute sessions to ensure individualized, focused care.
Education on how to treat your own injury and decrease the likelihood of reinjury.
This often means our patients require fewer total visits and recover faster compared to standard PT models.
- How soon should I start PT after an injury?
The sooner you start, the faster and easier recovery typically is. Waiting often leads to loss of strength, compensations in movement, and slower healing.
That said, even if you’ve had pain for months or years, we regularly help patients significantly improve their condition.
- Will I have to stop my workouts or sports?
Not always. While some injuries require short periods of rest, many times we can modify your activity so you can keep moving while healing. Our goal is to return you to the activities you love as quickly as possible..
- How many treatments will I need?
It depends on factors like the severity of your injury, how long you’ve had symptoms, and your overall health.
Most patients need only 2–7 visits, far fewer than the 2–3 visits per week for months that many clinics require.
- Why don’t you bill insurance?
We’re an out-of-network clinic because insurance companies often dictate care in ways that limit quality.
At Body In Motion Physical Therapy, every patient receives:
One-on-one care with a McKenzie-certified Physical Therapist
Full-hour sessions (or 30 minutes in limited cases if you prefer)
Fewer visits overall, saving you time and money
Many patients actually pay less out of pocket here than at in-network clinics once deductibles, copays, and time off work are factored in.
- Can I submit for insurance reimbursement?
Yes. Most non-Medicare patients can submit “self-claims” with receipts and treatment codes we provide. The reimbursement depends on your plan. We’ve attached a resource to help you determine your out of network benefits, but we are happy to assist you with this.
Medicare patients: Because we are not participating Medicare providers, we can only treat you if your condition is not eligible for physical therapy under your Medicare benefits for PT. For example, if you are able to perform all of your self-care daily activities but haven’t been able to return to golf, hiking, or pickleball, we can help you do that, since that is not a covered service under Medicare.
- Do I need a referral to start?
No. In North Carolina, you can see a Physical Therapist directly without a referral. Some insurances, such as Medicare replacement plans, require prior approval, which we can assist with.
